Treatments Available
In the past, the primary treatment for varicose veins was a surgical procedure called "vein stripping" with no treatment available for spider veins. This painful procedure required a hospital stay, lost time from work, and left undesirable scars on the legs. Since the late 1960s, sclerotherapy has become an increasingly more popular and accepted method of treatment for both varicose and spider veins. Given the far superior cosmetic results, lower cost (including lost time from work), and minimal discomfort when performed by an experienced sclerotherapist, compression sclerotherapy has not only replaced vein stripping as the treatment of choice for varicose veins, but is also a safe and effective method of treating unsightly spider veins.
